Serving in the Operations Section of the staff of the 33rd Army comrade Shcherbak was repeatedly dispatched on important assignments to units of the army deployed at frontline positions. Tasked with inspecting and preparing defensive positions and offensive operations, here he provided direct assistance in organizing combat operations. Personally verifying the preparedness of firepower assets in the forward trenches and the readiness of the units, he helped raise the combat readiness of the units so they could repel and destroy the enemy. Directly among the frontline units he repeatedly verified if combat instructions from army command were carried out. While carrying out an assignment in the 199th Rifle Division on December 23, 1943 he was wounded, but he stayed with the division until the battle had ended, having successfully accomplished the task assigned to him. He has been occupying his present position since June 1944. Within a short time he was able to organize his desk's duties in a fine manner. He skillfully and promptly processed all materials describing the army's offensive engagements during the operations in the summer of 1944. He achieved a significant improvement in the efforts to study wartime experiences and to describe the troops' operations. During the army's period of offensive operation he was repeatedly dispatched to the troops on assignments from army command. He accomplished all assignments unwearyingly and in a proactive manner. Through his personal efforts comrade Shcherbak contributed to the successes of the army during its offensive operations. He deserves to be awarded the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd Class. He has been serving in the Patriotic War since December 1944 [sic]. Within the Operations Section he arranged the duties of the Utilization of the Experience of War Desk in a fine manner. All of the army's offensive operations during the 1944 summer campaign and the 1945 winter and spring campaign were worked out properly and in a timely manner. Comrade Shcherbak devoted much attention to determining new warfare methods based on wartime experiences and circulating them within the army. During the winter and spring of 1945 he was repeatedly dispatched to the troops during the period of offensive operations in order to verify if and ensure that army command's field orders were executed. He accomplished all of his assignments, exhibiting due perseverance and bravery in the process. Through his efforts comrade Shcherbak contributed to the successes of the army in defeating the enemy.
