Short, concrete description of personal combat feat or merits:
Together with Privates Dudarevich and Pesterevy, sapper-scout V.I. Ivanov was assigned a combat
mission during the fighting for the village of Bezymyanny ["No Name"] on February 1, 1943. The mission was to clear
the ridge of the Vishnyovaya ["Cherry"] gully, containing Germans who were firing with machine guns and rifles from
the flank at our attacking infantrymen. Private Ivanov approached the first bunker unseen and threw two grenades
through its window, killing 5 German soldiers. Together with Privates Dudarevich and Pesterevy, Ivanov took 23 German
soldiers prisoner. During the fighting for the Barrikady settlement and factory on February 2, 1943, Private Ivanov
tossed grenades into a trench containing Germans attempting to resist, killing 13 soldiers and taking 18 German
soldiers and officers prisoner. While conducting an engineer reconnaissance mission in the village of Bezymyanny,
Private Ivanov detected and deactivated 8 antitank mines.
